Birla Dharmashala, Ayodhya, is a heritage rest-house managed by the Birla Trust, located approximately 1,200 metres from Ram Mandir. It is among the most sought-after accommodations for pilgrims visiting Ayodhya — trusted for its cleanliness, sattvic environment, and all-inclusive pricing. This guide covers everything you need to know to book your room.

Why So Many Pilgrims Choose Birla Dharmashala

Before getting into the booking process, it helps to understand what distinguishes Birla Dharmashala from the many accommodation options available in Ayodhya:

Managed by the Birla Trust — The Birla name in India carries enormous goodwill. The trust’s philanthropic institutions — temples, hospitals, schools, and rest-houses — are known for honesty, consistency, and quality. A property managed under the Birla Trust is not operated for commercial profit. The objective is seva: service to pilgrims.

All-inclusive pricing — Every room tariff at Birla Dharmashala includes three sattvic vegetarian meals per day. There are no hidden charges, no resort fees, no meal plan add-ons. The price you confirm is the price you pay at checkout.

24-hour operation — Many pilgrims arrive in Ayodhya on overnight trains that reach the station in the early morning hours. Birla Dharmashala’s reception is staffed round-the-clock, 7 days a week. You can check in at 3 AM just as easily as you can at noon.

Proximity to Ram Mandir — The 1,200-metre distance translates to a 12–15 minute walk through familiar pilgrimage streets. During festival season, when transport is scarce and expensive, this proximity is worth more than any room upgrade at a more distant property.

Variety of room types — From affordable dormitory beds at ₹350/bed to premium Luxury Suites at ₹4,150/night, there is an option for every kind of pilgrim — budget travellers, families, elderly guests needing AC, and groups.

How to Book — Step by Step

Booking at Birla Dharmashala is entirely direct — there are no third-party portals involved.

Step 1: Contact Us on WhatsApp or by Phone

The primary contact for bookings is:

  • WhatsApp and Phone: +91 93952 60698
  • Alternate Phone: +91 99352 24897

The fastest way to check availability is WhatsApp. Send a message and we typically respond within 30 minutes during the day.

You can also use our online booking form, which will pre-fill a WhatsApp message with your name, room type, dates, and guests — making the enquiry faster and more accurate.

Step 2: Share Your Details

When you contact us, have the following information ready:

  1. Your full name
  2. Number of guests — adults and children separately, since children affect which room size is appropriate
  3. Check-in date — including the day and whether you will be arriving before or after midnight
  4. Check-out date
  5. Preferred room type — based on the table above
  6. Any special requirements — early check-in, ground floor preference, elderly guest, medical equipment needs, etc.

The more detail you provide upfront, the faster we can confirm your room.

Step 3: Receive Confirmation

We will respond via WhatsApp or phone call to confirm whether your preferred room type is available for your dates. If the exact room type you requested is unavailable, we will suggest alternatives.

Confirmation is verbal or via WhatsApp message. We do not send formal booking confirmations by email (though you can screenshot the WhatsApp confirmation for your records).

Step 4: Arrive and Pay at the Property

Payment is made at check-in. We accept:

  • Cash (Indian Rupees)
  • UPI (Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay)

We do not currently accept credit or debit card payments. For international visitors, please ensure you carry sufficient Indian cash or have access to UPI.

No advance deposit or online payment is required for most bookings. However, during peak festival season (Ram Navami, Kartik Purnima), we may ask for a confirmation via WhatsApp to hold the room.

Peak Season: When to Book and How Early

Ayodhya’s pilgrimage calendar has several high-demand periods. During these times, Birla Dharmashala rooms are fully booked weeks in advance. Below is a practical guide.

Ram Navami (March–April)

Ram Navami is the birthday of Prabhu Shri Ram and Ayodhya’s most significant annual festival. The city receives 5–10 lakh pilgrims during the main celebration period.

Book at least 4–6 weeks before Ram Navami. The closer you get to the date without booking, the fewer options remain — and you may find yourself staying 5–6 km from Ram Mandir, losing the proximity advantage that makes Birla Dharmashala’s location so valuable.

Diwali and Kartik Purnima (October–November)

The period from Diwali through Kartik Purnima (typically 15–20 days) sees heavy pilgrimage traffic. Sarayu Ghat and Ram Mandir attract large crowds for evening aarti and lamp-lighting.

Book at least 3–4 weeks in advance.

Vivah Panchami (November–December)

Celebrating the divine wedding of Shri Ram and Sita Mata, this festival draws devotees from across northern India.

Book 2–3 weeks in advance.

Makar Sankranti and New Year (January)

The Sarayu snaan (sacred bath) during Makar Sankranti is an important pilgrimage activity. New Year and Republic Day weekends also see increased bookings.

Book 2–3 weeks in advance.

Regular Season

Outside the above festival windows, Ayodhya receives a consistent flow of pilgrims year-round. Standard advance notice of 3–7 days is usually sufficient, but calling ahead is always advisable to avoid arriving without a confirmed room.

What to Expect After Booking

Once your room is confirmed, here is what to expect:

Arrival: Drive or take an auto-rickshaw to the address — 24/2, 10, Ayodhya Jct Rd, Sai Nagar, New Colony, Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh 224123. Our reception will greet you and complete a brief check-in process.

Room key and meal timings: You will be given your room key and informed of meal timings (breakfast, lunch, and dinner service times for your stay period).

Locker: If you need to store valuables while spending the day at Ram Mandir, speak to the reception about locker availability.

Prayer hall: The property has a dedicated prayer hall open to all guests. It is a quiet space for personal prayer, japa, and meditation.

For International Pilgrims and NRI Visitors

Birla Dharmashala welcomes international pilgrims and NRI visitors with equal warmth. A few practical notes:

  • Language: Our reception staff communicates in Hindi and basic English. Please WhatsApp in either language.
  • Currency: Indian Rupees are required for payment. UPI requires an Indian bank account. International visitors should carry sufficient cash.
  • Visa: We do not assist with visa processes. Please ensure you have appropriate Indian visa documentation before arrival.
  • Dietary restrictions: The kitchen serves sattvic vegetarian food. If you have specific medical dietary requirements beyond vegetarianism, please discuss this with reception in advance.
